Here’s a fifteen-minute video you don’t have time to watch . . . but please watch it anyway. I can almost guarantee you will find it to be as worthwhile as I did.
It is the essence of being a Go-Giver, not because the protagonist is so intent on adding value to the lives of everyone he comes across; and not because a great thing happened to him as a result. But because he added that value without the emotional attachment of anything having to happen . . . and it did.
And not due to luck. He was the cause of the effect via being a Go-Giver.
Please let us know what you think of the video. And, of course, pass it on.
What a great video and profound message!
Imagine what would our communities and world be like if we each would “validate” another’s worth each day by something as simple and yet so powerful as a genuine, heartfelt smile. May each of us take this short clip and multiply its effect many times and not simply talk of “change” but in fact make it.
I just finished The Go Giver and the story on my blog actually happened as I was reading the book — no doubt I was subconsciously doing homework!
Thank you for writing such a profound book.
Hi Michael — Great post on your blog! It’s amazing how when one comes from a place of generosity, great things happen!
Jary, thank you for your thought. Yes, I agree with you, and I hope that video continues to get pass around. Validating others is so simply, and so fulfilling, both to the giver and to the receiver.
Michael, I agree with my awesome coauthor and friend, John David Mann; that was a great post on your blog! A chill went through me as I read that. Way to go, my friend!
Make them smile. How simple and profound. Emotion is what drives humans. People are powerful. People forget that. I certainly did… but i remembered that watching this cool video.
i found myself limiting my potential by the contrived, invented concept of money. I think if I only think in terms of money, I am severely limiting myself, because there is so much intangible value to give and receive. And this where the true power lies — in the intangibles. WE saw it too, with the story of Kyle Macdonald: he traded a paper clip all the way to a paid-for house.
I used to try to fake the smile. It doesn’t work if you’re not truly smiling. I smile with my solar plexus now, with my gut. Never been happier and euphoric, ever. It’s an exciting time.
What an amazing video! As someone who has now read The Go-Giver 15+ times, I am continually amazed at just how simple it can be to change the world. The story told in this video is incredible. As with the book, this video will now transcend my life daily, whenever I see someone who needs a smile.
Thank you for sharing this amazing reminder!

You’re the best Bob!
I think what touched me in the video was that you never know how the blessings and validation touch people in waves and ripples that you never knew you could… In making a difference to one, it spreads 🙂 Like sweet honey…
Thank you, Natalie. I should have mentioned in the original posting that YOU are the person who sent me the link to the video in the first place. THANK YOU. You are a true Go-Giver.
So many lessons in this charming video – not to mention so many funny moments. It’s worth watching even if you refuse the lessons. But the heartbreaking moment is when we hear the hero say, “No one’s ever said that to me before.” For all of the praise and media attention he had gotten, no one had given him the same validation he was giving others.
Makes me remember the importance of letting people know how much we value them. So often we think those people have so much already, how can our words of thanks mean anything? But they do, if we are authentic and sincere.
So here is a sincere “thank you” to everyone out there who takes time to give a smile and a kind word. And here’s a great big THANK YOU to you, Bob, for sharing, and to you, Natalie, for sharing it with him. We’ll just keep passing the smile around.
Thank YOU, Dixie,
As usual, you so thoughtfully go-give of yourself to make sure that others are acknowledged. It’s no wonder you related so strongly to the main character in the film. You are a lot like him (oh, except for your being a woman and all that, but you know what I mean). 🙂
Thank you for your very kind words. You are one of my favorite people in the world and continue to amaze me with your kindness.
Never, ever think that you, just one person, aren’t valuable! Each of us has the power to inpire encourage and inspire others – no matter what we do or what position we are in. The Bible says that we “are the light of the world”…so turn on those bulbs!
Thank you for the great video and the great message. Go-Getters…time to get going!
This is an amazing, funny, full of meaning movie!
It reminded me that small signs of appreciation like … a smile, can turn the other person’s life around. This short story makes me think about the “Go-Giver” conceptions in another light: what you offer is strictly related to who you are as a person. The main character was “giving” in every aspect of his life — smiles and sincere words of appreciation and admiration. In other words, he was giving a part of himself without searching for a personal gaining … and for the receivers: “Don’t forget! It’s not everything about you! Look around and you will see people with similar needs … so offer what you have the best because your life can change too.
Thank you for the wonderful book … it helped me remember what success really means!
Wow! This was an inspirational video for all to see. It is a great complimementary video to the Go-Giver. Truly this is a solid illustration of the need for people in the world who inspire, encourage, and motivate others. I can personally attest to and from what I’ve seen of the majority of those I’ve come into contact over the years is that great people and/ or people who may just be ordinary, but end up doing great and extraordinary things are moreso inspired by others to do so.
i love your website i do love it
