In his 1910 classic, The Science of Getting Rich, author Wallace D. Wattles suggest that you must be “bigger than your present place.” In other words, if you want to advance — in terms of personal and/or business success you must provide more than is expected from those typically in your current position. To the degree you do that, you will eventually be noticed, and you will advance. This might be in the form of a friendship, a raise, a new position, or…well, whatever ways one could possibly advance.
I was reminded of this Saturday evening during one of our all-afternoon and evening MasterMind sessions, this one in Fort Lauderdale. One of our members, Lisa Jimenez has, for many years, worked with high-level producers and executives, including holding high-end retreats in exotic locations all over the world. Several of these, however, were held at a luxury hotel local to Lisa.
Two weeks ago she was contacted by the General Manager who asked if she would join him and the General Manager from their French property for dinner. Not really understanding why they would invite her — a relatively small customer in terms of the money she has spent with them over the years — out to dinner and fly their French manager over to join them, she accepted with a receptive mind.
While there, they told her that since the time she’d brought her first group to the local hotel so many years ago, they’d been watching her. And, they’d been seeing what she brought to the table; the pre-event diligence; the manner in which she cared for her clients, the way she brought out their best during the facilitation.
And, they offered her a contract to facilitate that property’s major retreats.
This will be very lucrative for Lisa, and of phenomenal value to this property’s team members.
But, it only happened because everything Lisa does, she does with her entire heart and soul. Her attitude is amazingly positive, she edifies on a continual basis, and she brings out the best in everyone she works with.
But, can anyone do this, or must one already be as successful as Lisa? Actually, Lisa, who has a degree in Psychology, began her career many years ago as a school teacher who then went into direct sales and led a huge team. From there she began speaking and writing, and then began working with elite producers.
Everything she did along the way was with a focus on bringing the best value she could to everyone and to everything.
Fortunately, that is possible for everyone. Simply be like Lisa… and focus on bringing the best value you can to everyone and to everything.
You will get noticed. You will advance.
We’d love to hear your examples on how you bring your best value to everything you do.

Lisa is so AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!! LOVE her. Thank’s for a GREAT article as usual Bob! You 2 are best examples of attitude and behavior and bringing value to others – Hugs and love to you both 😀
Lene: Thank you. I love her, too. She’s been an amazing example for so many of us. She does things with excellence, and consistently so. And, thank you for your very kind words personally, as well. Hugs and love back!
Bob – what a wonderfully inspiring story about Lisa and her dedication to providing value. I can’t help but feel (even having never met her) that Lisa is probably one of those people who acts authentically and with the best interests of others in mind, even when she’s not aware other people are watching. Of course, as you’ve said Bob, people do notice this – and I’m glad the General Manager and his team were savvy enough to spot Lisa’s talent. Good luck with it Lisa!
Richard: Thank you. So glad you enjoyed the post. And, you are absolutely correct…Lisa is exactly that, and it’s exactly what she does! Thanks again!
